Program Overview
Designed for certified teachers, Monmouth University’s MEd program explores teaching methods, educational research, and innovative curriculum design while working toward your P-3 standard certification.
With online classes, you can do this all while still teaching full-time. Throughout the program, you’ll engage with peers and make connections in the field. Earning an advanced degree in education can deepen your knowledge and expand your capacity to teach and support young learners.
Early Childhood Education (P-3)
This program prepares you to work in a variety of settings as a preschool teacher, education consultant, or program director. Earning a master’s degree in education gives you the additional credentials you need to boost your earning potential and advance within your school and district. Earning the P-3 standard certification can also expand your opportunities. In addition to teaching in the classroom, the program prepares you to work as a:
- Pre-school teacher in a public or private school
- Childcare center director
- Family support specialist
- Parent educator
- Early childhood consultant
- P3 Curriculum developer

Admissions Requirements
Here’s an overview of the admissions requirements and application process for our Master of Education (MEd) with a P-3 Endorsement:
Master of Education (MEd) with a P-3 Endorsement Admissions Requirements
To be considered for admission:
- A four-year baccalaureate degree with a minimum overall 3.0 GPA
- Teacher certification, based on program of study
Your application must also include:
- Two letters of recommendation related to the applicant’s competence for graduate study.
- Essay (500 words or more) explaining why the applicant wishes to pursue this graduate program.
- Resume
- Teaching Certificate (If the applicant is not a certified teacher, the applicant must hold an NJ Certificate of Eligibility (CE) P–3 and be employed in a P–3 position requiring certification).
Students pursuing Provisional Teacher Prep Program (alternate route) must submit the following prior to applying to the MEd program:
- 50 hour VOPC-Verification of Completion form.
- Completion of appropriate Praxis II for certification area.
- Employment Contract or Letter. Applicants must be employed as a P3 Teacher of Record, P3 Long Term Substitute, or P3 maternity leave replacement.
- Cumulative CGPA of a 3.0 or better.
