Outstanding Teacher Award 2010

Monmouth University-William Roberts Charitable Foundation Outstanding Teaching Award

2010

Monmouth University has honored an Ocean Township High School teacher and an educator from the Christian Brothers Academy as part of a trio of educators whose impact has left lasting impressions on their students.

The 2010 Monmouth University-Roberts Charitable Foundation Outstanding School Teacher Award recipients were lleana Larrauri from Ocean Township High School, Jean L. Malinowski of Wallkill Valley Regional High School in Hamburg, and Patrick J. McGann III from Christian Brothers Academy in the Lincroft section of Middletown Township.

Ileana Larrauri, a Spanish teacher for 25 years, has taught at Ocean Township High School since 2001 and serves as Spanish Club facilitator. “Senora Larrauri was one of the few teachers in my high school education that truly gave me a better perspective on the real world,” said her former student Paul Mahajan, who lives in Shrewsbury. “She helped me become who I am today and there is no greater gift in life than realizing one’s abilities.”

Since 1981, Patrick McGann has been teaching U.S. History at CBA, where he graduated in 1971. He is currently the alumni coordinator. “Mr. McGann is the person who made me consider becoming a teacher, a history teacher especially,” said his former student and nominator Michael J. McGivney. “I enjoyed the different ways that he would correlate history to things going on in the world.” McGann, who attended Monmouth University for teacher certification, lives in Point Pleasant.

The final teacher honoree was Jean Malinowski, a math teacher at Walkilll Valley Regional High School for 10 years and a 2006 Teacher of the Year honoree.

The awards were created in 2006 by Monmouth University life trustee William Roberts to recognize outstanding secondary school teachers who made an important contribution to the education of current Monmouth University students. The teacher/honorees each received an award of $1,500 and were recognized at Monmouth University’s commencement ceremonies.
