Pre-Health Advising

Choosing a Major

While most pre-medical students major in the natural or physical sciences, an increasingly complex and global medical profession demands health care professionals to have broad cultural knowledge and excellent communication skills.

Therefore, pre-professional health students may choose to major in English, history, psychology, business, etc. Regardless of major, pre-professional health students should develop a solid foundation in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and the humanities by completing an academic program developed by the University and required of most medical, dental, and veterinary schools in the United States.

Prerequisite requirements for each of the health professions are provided. It is vital that students succeed academically—the average GPA of a medical school applicant is a 3.4.
