Hawk Safety Alert 2022-03

Dear Monmouth University Community:

On March 16, 2022, the Monmouth University Police Department was made aware of an incident that occurred at Laurel Hall around 4:58 p.m. regarding a suspicious male. A female Monmouth University student contacted the Police Department to report the actions of this individual, who was walking behind her and followed her from the Shadow Lawn area, through the tunnel to Laurel Hall. The resident student then entered the building and closed the inner lobby door behind her. The male subject then attempted but was unable to enter the residential hall. As a result of this information we wanted to make you aware of the following description.

Subject is a white male, 5’10”, wearing a bright red hooded sweatshirt with a black baseball cap. The red hooded sweatshirt has a white emblem on the left breast and baseball cap also has white writing or a logo on it. He also appears to be wearing grey sweat pants, black New Balance sneakers and a blue surgical mask. He is described as being older than college age. He was last seen heading north toward Elmwood Hall. No contact or threats were made toward the caller.

In an attempt to locate the subject, Monmouth University Police officers searched the campus and surrounding area but the subject was not found. There is no immediate threat to the campus nor any indication that the subject has returned to the Residential Buildings on campus.

The Monmouth University Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to report any suspicious persons or activity that may occur on campus to the University Police Department at 732-571-4444.

Additional Information Update

The Monmouth University Police Department, with the assistance of one of our students, has identified the subject described in the alert. After reading the description, the student observed the subject on Cedar Ave. near Norwood Ave. That student immediately called the Monmouth University Police Department. Officers responded and located the subject near that location. He was identified and advised not to return to campus.
