Invite Career Development Into Your Classroom

Career Development staff are available to facilitate classroom presentations and career-focused workshops that help students connect academics to career readiness. Sessions can be incorporated into your course curriculum, integrated into specific assignments, or scheduled when faculty need to miss class and would like students to participate in a meaningful professional development session. Presentations can be tailored to your course, major, or student population.

Integrate Career Readiness into Your Syllabus

Embedding career-related activities into coursework helps students engage earlier and more consistently with career planning. Consider incorporating assignments or milestones such as:

Completing a Handshake profile
Developing or updating a resume and cover letter
Attending a career fair, employer panel, or networking event
Meeting with a Career Coach
Creating or enhancing a LinkedIn profile
Completing a practice interview or career assessment

Faculty may also consider offering participation points or extra credit opportunities for students who engage with Career Development programs, coaching appointments, workshops, career fairs, or employer events.

Encourage Students to Use Handshake

Handshake connects students with internships, jobs, employer events, career fairs, and career resources. Faculty encouragement plays an important role in increasing student engagement with the platform and helping students access opportunities early in their college experience.

If faculty have relationships with employers or organizations interested in recruiting Monmouth students, Career Development is happy to help connect with those organizations and assist them in posting opportunities through Handshake. Promote Career Coaching

Encourage students to schedule appointments with Career Development for individualized support related to:

Career exploration
Internship and job search strategies
Resume and cover letter feedback
Interview preparation
Graduate school planning
Networking and LinkedIn guidance

Students also have access to Hiration, an AI-powered platform that can help them develop, tailor, and revise resumes based on specific job and internship postings, as well as prepare for interviews and strengthen other job search materials.

Connect Students with Employers and Alumni

Career Development can help connect faculty with employers, alumni, and industry professionals who may be interested in speaking with students about career paths, industry trends, and course-related topics. Many of our employer partners are Monmouth alumni who enjoy engaging with students and sharing professional insights and experiences.

Faculty are encouraged to attend career fairs, networking events, employer panels, and other Career Development programs to build relationships with employer partners and stay informed about current industry trends and hiring needs.

We are happy to discuss customized classroom presentations, embedded programming, department-specific initiatives, employer engagement opportunities, or other ways to support your students’ professional development.
