Criteria & Application Process for 2024 Student Scholarships and Awards:

Business Council Award for “Resilience & Resourcefulness”

The Business Council funds several student scholarships and awards annually.  For academic year 2022-2023, the Business Council expanded its award categories and associated criteria for eligibility. Below are the criteria and application process for this year’s Scholarships and Awards.  Application submission deadline for the 2023-2024 awards is March 22, 2024.

  • This award recognizes Monmouth University Business School students in good academic standing, (any grade level) who have overcome adversity demonstrating an ability to persevere through difficult circumstances in school and life this year, and anytime.    
  • Award recipients will be selected on the basis of  application and written narrative outlining the applicant’s ability to persevere through difficult circumstances.   
  • Individual Award amount is $1,000.  
  •  Recipient Selection:  Business Council Student Engagement Committee.   

Business Council Award for “Innovation & Entrepreneurship”

  • This award recognizes Monmouth University Business School students in good academic standing (any grade level), who have demonstrated exceptional interest and accomplishments in innovation and entrepreneurship during their time at Monmouth University.
  • Award recipients will be selected on the basis of application and written narrative outlining the applicant’s interest, dedication, and success achieved in innovation and/or entrepreneurship while a student at Monmouth University.
  • Individual Award amount is $1,000.
  • Recipient Selection:  Business Council Student Engagement Committee.

Business Council Award for “Student Leadership”

  • This award is given to a Monmouth University Business School student in good academic standing (any grade level) who exemplifies excellence and truly embodies a commitment to leadership and involvement on campus and/or in the community.  The nominee shall demonstrate that they have served on campus or community leadership initiatives throughout their academic journey, having left a positive and lasting impression as a on the University community and community at large as a “force for good”.
  • Award recipients will be selected on the basis of application and written narrative.
  • Individual Award amount is $1,000.
  • Recipient Selection:  Business Council Student Engagement Committee.

Business Council Award for “Community Impact”

  • This award recognizes Monmouth University Business School students in good academic standing, (any grade level) who have contributed to the community through service and/or non-profit work. 
  • Award recipients will be selected on the basis of  application and written narrative outlining the applicant’s interest, dedication, and societal impact while a student at Monmouth University.
  • Individual Award amount is $1,000.
  • Recipient Selection:  Business Council Student Engagement Committee.

Annual Scholarship 

Leon Hess Business Council Annual Scholarship (Starting Fall of 2023)

The criteria for the annual scholarship will include:

  • Current/continuing undergraduate students or transfer undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with any concentration within the Leon Hess Business School.
  • Recipient must be a full time student.
  • Recipient should have a GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • The Scholarship is renewable if the above criteria continue to be met.

Endowed Scholarship

Leon Hess Business Council Endowed Scholarship (Starting Fall 2024)

The criteria in the “gift agreement” for this scholarship currently states:

  • It is preferred that the recipient be a first-year or second-year student, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with any concentration within the Leon Hess Business School.
  • The recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student.
  • The recipient should have a high school GPA of 3.0 and above; if a transfer student, he/she should have a GPA of 3.0 and above; and if a current MU student, a GPA of 3.0 and above.
  • If the above criteria cannot be met, then the University will administer the Scholarship to a MU student, who is pursuing a BS degree in Business Administration with any concentration within the Leon Hess Business School and has a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Preference for student with military service or direct family member with military service.
  • The Scholarship is renewable if the above criteria continue to be met.

Congratulations to the 2023 Scholarship & Award Recipients:

The Business Council sponsored four categories of student awards for the academic year 2022-2023.  Forty-nine student applications were submitted for these awards. Applications were evaluated by the Business Council Awards & Scholarship Committee with six students selected as $1,000 award recipients.  Award recipients were recognized at the May 5th Business Council meeting.
