Hello and welcome to the Monmouth University Promoting Wellness & Resiliency home page! We are a new coalition on campus that aims to prevent suicide among our students and bring awareness to issues surrounding suicide.
In 2012, Monmouth University received the grant for this Garrett Lee Smith Suicide Prevention Initiative. Since then, we have successfully trained over 700 people, of which 130 were outside clinicians. The 39 trainings we have had so far are adapted to the type of audience, so that each audience learns both the basics of suicide prevention and specific details that cater to their position in the campus community.
Amidst these trainings, we have also held advisory meetings, monthly conference calls with the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, and webinars. Each of these tasks has allowed us to combine forces and make our organization even stronger.
As we make our way into the second year of the grant, we plan to host activities for students and families, such as giveaways at sporting events. We also want to form a student advisory board made up of all kinds of students, from those who are part of Greek Life and athletics to our student club leaders and PLAs.
For more information or information on how to get involved, please contact Dr. Michelle Scott of the School of Social Work or Dr. Franca Mancini of Counseling and Psychological Services.
