Call for Applications: Undergraduate Internships (2026–2027)

The Institute for Global Understanding (IGU) invites applications for undergraduate internships for the 2026-2027 academic year. IGU interns play a vital role in advancing the Institute’s mission to promote global awareness, interdisciplinary collaboration, and experiential learning across campus. Interns gain hands-on experience in research, event coordination,
communications, global engagement, and leadership while contributing to high-impact programs such as the Pearson World Cinema Series, Fulbright outreach, sustainability initiatives, and student innovation projects.

This internship is open to motivated students from all majors who are passionate about global issues, public engagement, and collaborative work.

Position Overview

Interns may be assigned to work directly with the IGU Director, Advisory Council, and/or committee chairs. Based on interest and skillset, interns may support one or more of the following priority areas:

  • Communication & Media Committee: digital storytelling, social media strategy, website updates, event promotion, photography, and content creation.
  • Partnerships & Outreach Committee: external relations, UN partnerships, community engagement, faculty mapping, and global program coordination.
  • Entrepreneurship & Innovation Initiatives: support for the IGU Global Impact in Entrepreneurship Award, student venture development, and interdisciplinary innovation programming.
  • Advisory Council Support: meeting preparation, note-taking, research tasks, and coordination across committees.
  • Event Programming: assistance with the Pearson World Cinema Series, Global Understanding Convention, sustainability events, and visiting scholar programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, logistics, and execution of IGU events and programs.
  • Conduct research on global issues, international education, sustainability, or entrepreneurship.
  • Draft communications, social media posts, website content, and outreach materials.
  • Support Advisory Council committees through coordination, documentation, and project tracking.
  • Engage with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to promote IGU initiatives.
  • Contribute to IGU’s mission of fostering global citizenship and interdisciplinary learning.

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in global issues, intercultural engagement, sustainability, policy, communication, or innovation.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional environment.
  • Reliability, creativity, and a commitment to inclusive global engagement.
  • Experience with social media, design tools, research, or event planning is a plus (not required).

Time Commitment

  • Internships run Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.
  • Interns may receive academic credit, experiential learning hours, or co-curricular transcript recognition depending on program requirements.
