Department of Political Science

Learn Civic Responsibility
& Leadership

Through a study of government, law, public policy, international relations, and area studies, our mission is to prepare students with knowledge and skills for a number of career possibilities, and to instill civic responsibility and leadership

About the Department

We are a dynamic, student-centered department that offers bachelor’s degrees in political science. Classes are taught by award-winning faculty, and students get firsthand experience of discipline-based careers through internship programs. Graduates of our programs have gone on to lead successful careers in government, law, public sector, non-profit management, and international and non-governmental organizations.

Our students take leadership roles in campus and community activities—through policy debate, Model United Nations, clubs, and honor societies.

Model UN Team

The department’s Model UN Team is open to all students, and no experience is required. Club members are expected to prepare immensely prior to each conference by researching their topic areas, preparing position papers, and outlining resolutions.

Debate Team

The Debate Team has approximately 40 members and participating in debate is a great way to make new friends while honing transferable skills to careers in law, politics, business, and education. No previous debate experience is necessary

Mock Trial

The University’s mock trial program consists of groups of six to eight students that compete nationally in the American Mock Trial Association’s (AMTA) tournament. The program builds strong oral advocacy skills, as well as litigation skills critical for practical success in law school and beyond.

Pre-Law Club

Monmouth University’s Pre-Law Club serves as the central information clearinghouse for all students interested in attending law school and learning more about the legal profession.
