The GIS program has a strong partnership with the Urban Coast Institute (UCI),
a Center of Distinction at Monmouth. The UCI provides opportunities for
students to expand their knowledge of GIS through hands-on courses and research
projects. These opportunities allow students to investigate the problems facing
our coastal environments and communities alongside UCI researchers. Background
from the GIS minor can help students learn how the UCI performs data
collection, research design, and scientific communication. The UCI is also a
funding source for GIS-based student research projects.
Student research on walkability around Monmouth’s campus developed in association with a UCI-funded project. Blue-colored areas signify walking areas to campus based on different walking times along existing roads.
