First-Year is a mentoring program for our incoming, new Senators, who are selected through an interview process early in the fall semester. The program is designed to provide guidance and support to the new students.
Incoming first-year students who are interested in running for one of the 6 first-year Senator vacancies are asked to complete a first-year Senator application before the fall selection process closes in mid September. Applicants will take part in an interview with members of the SGA Election Committee during the first few weeks of the fall term. After SGA meets with all of the applicants, they will select 6 students to serve as First-Year Senators for that academic year. One of the requirements of being selected as a first-year Senator means taking part in the overnight fall retreat that is typically held off-campus at an away camp in late September. The 2020 Fall SGA Retreat will be held the last weekend in September at Trails End Camp in Beach Lake, PA.
An important part of the first-year Senator program are the upperclassmen from SGA who are paired up with the new members. They serve as mentors providing guidance and support as they learn their way around SGA. Through this ongoing interaction, the new Senators are able to develop a better understanding of: how SGA works, who its members are, how they can get fully connected to SGA, and how they will be able to play an active role with SGA.
If you are going to be an incoming student and would like to learn more about SGA and the first-year program, complete the online first-year Senator application.
