Lunch & Learn: 6/19/2020

In response to COVID-19 and as a thank you to all our front line workers, the School of Social Work is proud to offer FREE online learning for social workers through the Professional Education Program (PEP). These live, one-hour, webinars will be held via the platform Zoom. Participants will earn 1 General CE* Credit for attending. All are welcome.

*All continuing education hours (CEs) are provided by the Monmouth University School of Social Work in accordance with New Jersey Administrative Code 13:44G and are recognized by the New Jersey Board of Social Work Examiners.

COVID-19 and the Impact of Social Isolation on Older Adults

Participants will discuss the impact of social isolation on older adults who are living at home and in institutions, pre and post COVID-19. We will explore this impact and discuss various ways to combat the epidemic of loneliness.

Presenter Information

Christa Hogan, MSW, LCSW, is a lecturer and the newly appointed Director of the BSW program in the School of Social Work at Monmouth University. She has been teaching at Monmouth University for the last 15 years in the Undergraduate and Graduate Program in the School of Social Work. Christa has a variety of practice experience including working with children with emotional and behavioral difficulties, school social work, and in private practice working primarily with children, adolescents, and adults. Christa’s true passion is through her work with older adults. She has over 20 years of experience working in nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, hospice, and working with caregivers. Among the many courses that she teaches, Christa teaches a course in the Graduate program titled End of Life Experiences. In this course students become certified hospice volunteers through a service-learning project that is embedded in the course. She also teaches an undergraduate and graduate course titled Social Work with Older Adults. In these courses students learn about palliative care and end of life conversations and options, among other relevant topics as part of the curriculum. They also partake in service-learning projects that engage them in intergenerational projects with local agencies that serve the older adult population.
