Summer Research Program

Q: How many days and hours per week are students expected to work?

A: Your weekly, daily, and hourly commitment to the SRP will vary depending on the project you are working on. Time expectations typically range from 10 to 20 hours per week depending on the project. Days and times are usually flexible, and your time commitment is worked out with your research professor at times that are mutually convenient for the mentor and other students working on the project.

A: Yes. Start and end dates can vary depending on student availability, project requirements, and availability of the faculty research mentor.

Q: How much money will student researchers earn in the SRP?

A: In 2023 SRP student researchers will be paid hourly wages of approximately $14.13, but the rate can vary slightly if your summer salary is paid by externally funded grants with specific requirements for hourly wages.

Q: Why register for a research course?

A: Depending on your major and institution, many programs have a research requirement which can be fulfilled through a summer research course experience. In addition, for Monmouth University undergraduate students and students from a number of other colleges or universities, completion of a summer research course can be used to satisfy experiential education or internship requirements. Another major advantage of earning credit for your research experience is that this experience would be included on your academic transcripts, and research course credits are of value when applying to graduate and professional programs or when applying for a job.
