Athletes

The Monmouth University Department of Athletics offers a limited number of grants-in-aid, frequently called athletic scholarships, to student-athletes who have shown a commitment to achieve academically and possess the desire and ability to compete in sports on a level consistent with the established athletics program at Monmouth University. These grants-in-aid are offered at the discretion of a head coach with the consent and approval of the Director of Athletics and the Director of Financial Aid, within the guidelines prescribed by Monmouth University and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Procedures for awarding athletic grants-in-aid:

  • A head coach presents a written proposal for the distribution of an initial award to returning and prospective student-athletes.
  • A National Letter of Intent is issued to the prospective student-athlete.
  • All grant recipients must comply with both the National Letter of Intent regulations and the Monmouth University Athletics Grant-In-Aid Agreement. Failure to do so could result in cancellation of the award. Athletic grants-in-aid become effective when and only when:
    • (A) Incoming first-year students have been certified as “qualified” or “partial qualified” by the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse; or
    • (B) Returning students or incoming transfer students have been certified by Monmouth University’s NCAA faculty representative as academically eligible to continue to compete.
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
