Requesting Meal Plan Accommodations

Intent: To outline the process of requesting a disability related accommodation for the University meal plan.

Accountability: The Director of DDS and all DDS professional staff, the ADA/ 504 Coordinator, and students with disabilities requesting DDS accommodations and support services.

Applicability: Students registered with the Department of Disability Services and approved for a meal plan accommodation.

Please note: Gourmet Dining is the company that provides dining services to Monmouth University. All students living in the residence halls are required to have a meal plan.

Procedure: Students requesting a disability related accommodation for the University’s meal plan must complete the following steps:

  1. Register with the Department of Disability Services (DDS) and present documentation supporting the need for an accommodation to the University’s meal plan. Documentation must be completed by a licensed practitioner, physician, or allergist.
  • Meet with a Disability specialist to discuss their request.
  • After the student’s initial meeting with a Disability Specialist, the Disability Specialist will forward the student Gourmet Dining’s dietician contact information. The student will then make an appointment with the Gourmet Dining dietician.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to schedule and keep appointments with Gourmet Dining’s dietician.
  • Gourmet Dining’s dietician will inform the assigned disability specialist if Gourmet Dining can meet the needs of the student, and if so, present a plan for moving forward.
  • The assigned disability specialist will inform the student of the meal plan accommodation decision.
  •  It is Gourmet Dining’s dietician who determines if and how the company can accommodate the student’s meal plan related needs.

If the student does not agree with the determination, they have the option to file an appeal with the ADA/ 504 Coordinator.
