Chi Sigma Iota, CSI, is an international honor society that values academic and professional excellence in counseling. CSI promotes a strong professional identity through members who contribute to the realization of a healthy society by fostering wellness and human dignity.
The mission of CSI is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership, advocacy, and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the profession of counseling.
Monmouth University chapter, MU Upsilon Omega, is an ever-growing community of counseling students, Monmouth University alumni and Monmouth University counselor educators. Students from the departments of Professional Counseling and Educational Counseling are eligible for membership after they have completed at least 9 credits in their graduate program and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better on a scale of 4.0 and are deemed promising for endorsement as a professional counselor whose ethical judgment and behavior will be exemplary.
Eligible students will receive an email from the current CSI president in the beginning of the spring semester. Students will be instructed to apply for New Member Registration on the CSI website. Students will be required to pay the CSI membership dues online (students may renew CSI memberships annually online. Membership must be maintained to receive honor cords for graduation). The MU Upsilon Omega Chapter Faculty Advisor will be required to approve the online application form before an application is finalized. Once an application is submitted online and eligibility is confirmed, students will receive further instructions and information regarding membership.
Each spring we hold a required induction ceremony for new CSI members. The induction ceremony includes national, local and alumni speakers from the counseling field and beyond. Students are individually presented with their CSI certificate and pin. All students can invite family and friends to this fun event. Graduation cords are given, for free, to all current members of CSI the semester of their graduation.
