Experiential Education: A University Requirement
Monmouth University is proud to be among the few institutions of higher education in the United States to have experiential education as a requirement. The Experiential Education Program offers courses that integrate theoretical academic knowledge with applied career-related experience that enables students to interact with external constituencies, such as local agencies, organizations, and businesses both in and outside of the classroom. Your Options in Math
Mathematics majors who are also majoring in education usually satisfy their experiential education requirement through Student Teaching (ED 416 or ED 435). Mathematics majors often satisfy their experiential education requirement by taking Introduction to Mathematical Modeling, (MA 419).
Course Description: Introduction to mathematical modeling, which is a process in which a real-world situation is studied, simplified, and abstracted to the point that mathematical tools can be applied to gain an understanding. Introduction to the process, first via a text and mini-projects, then in teams investigating problems from local industries or organizations.
