          PART-TIME BIOWATCH PROGRAM                       ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

(INTERMITTENT TECHNICAL)

ST. CHARLES COUNTY DIVISION OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

 

Hourly Rate:   $17.76 per hour

 

PURPOSE: This intermittent, grant-funded position supports the BioWatch Program by collecting and transporting environmental samples from designated locations throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. The position requires independent work, strict adherence to established protocols, and the ability to perform duties in a variety of environmental conditions. This position is funded through the BioWatch grant and is subject to the continuation of grant funding. Hours may be flexible.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Collect environmental samples at assigned locations in accordance with established BioWatch protocols and procedures. 
  • Operate a county-provided vehicle to travel designated routes throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. 
  • Maintain accurate records of sample collection, handling, and chain-of-custody documentation. 
  • Ensure timely and secure delivery of samples to designated laboratories or drop-off points. 
  • Conduct routine vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs. 
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisory staff regarding work status, delays, or operational issues. 
  • Follow all County policies, safety standards, and program requirements. 
  • Safeguard sensitive information related to program operations. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Missouri operator’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must successfully pass a comprehensive police background investigation.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and be subject to random testing in accordance with County policy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict procedures and protocols.
  • Basic documentation and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to navigate assigned routes using maps, GPS, or other navigation tools.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and professionalism.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach as needed to perform job duties.
  • Ability to frequently enter and exit a vehicle. 
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
  • Must comply with all St. Charles County policies and procedures.

 

This is an intermittent position and is not eligible for County benefits, including health insurance, retirement, or paid leave, except as required by law. Employment in this position is contingent upon continued grant funding through the BioWatch Program.
