SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under general supervision of the Division Manager, or designee, this position provides the opportunity to perform a full range of duties related to the functions of the Department. You will have the opportunity to work on real projects that align with your interests and career aspirations. 

Your role in the group is an important one, your work is taken seriously, and you are counted on as a contributing member of a team. This internship will culminate in the implementation, as practical, and presentation of a final project that will contribute to both the City of McKinney and your academic and professional development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
 

  • Assists with researching local, state, and national programs, policies, etc. to ensure our department is at or above standard.
  • Complies with all written City policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.

When Assigned to MEDC
 

  • Assist with research, data analysis, program development and refinement, and other project-related activities.
  • Support business retention, recruitment, workforce development, marketing, events, and other areas of economic development.
  • Work with MEDC staff divisions to support organizational priorities and deliverables.
  • Participate in meetings, activities, and professional development opportunities relevant to the role. 
  • Provide project, administrative, and operational support and perform other duties related to MEDC work. 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute.

Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program at an accredited college.

PREFERRD QUALIFICATIONS
When Assigned to MEDC

  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and/or data management tools.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Interest in economic development, local government, or workforce development. 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must have Class C Texas Driver’s License
