Jing Zhou, MFA, associate professor of Art and Design, exhibits her poster design “20/20 Vision, 20/20 Thinking” at the 2021 New Jersey Arts Annual Exhibition “ReVision and Respond” in the Newark Museum of Art from June 17 to August 22, 2021. The jurors Kristen J. Owens, associate curator for Rutgers University-Newark’s Paul Robeson Galleries, and Amy Simon Hopwood, the Newark Museum of Art’s associate curator of decorative arts, selected 50 works created by 45 artists from over 1,800 submissions by 485 artists across New Jersey. The New Jersey Arts Annual is a unique series of exhibitions highlighting the state’s visual and performing artists. This year’s artworks respond to the turbulent events of recent years, especially 2020.
Zhou’s poster is featured on the museum website and the cover of the exhibition catalog. It resembles an eye chart and sends a clear message: We need to look for facts, search for reasons, and think independently. This way we won’t be deceived by fake news and rumors. These carefully selected words are separated by a red line that leads the viewer’s eye to see the red numbers 20/20, indicating perfect vision.
