Tara Pomparelli, J.D., adjunct lecturer in the Department of Accounting, won the Best Paper award at the Academy of Business Research 2024 Summer Conference for her recently published paper, “The GameStop Short Squeeze as a Case Study in Business Law Education.”
Pomparelli presented at the virtual conference, discussing her work on the legal and ethical implications of the GameStop short squeeze of 2021.
In her paper, Pomparelli discusses the short squeeze, driven by retail investors from the online Reddit forum r/WallStreetBets. She uses the GameStop saga to explore key legal and ethical issues pertinent to an undergraduate business law class, including market manipulation, regulatory oversight and compliance, and conflicts of interest.
