Monmouth University’s new Center for Speech and Language Disorders will open on January 20, 2015. The Center, located at 184 Monmouth Park Corporate Center on Highway 36 in West Long Branch, N.J., will provide speech and language evaluations and therapy for children and adults. The Center will operate on a free-services basis, with a registration fee of $295 per semester.
Graduate students working toward a master’s degree in speech-language pathology will offer one-on-one and group therapy sessions under the supervision of certified, licensed speech-language pathologists, who are faculty members at the University.
“Monmouth University is committed to providing an outstanding education to our future allied health professionals,” said Paul R. Brown, president of Monmouth University. “This center will be of great benefit to our students as well as Monmouth and Ocean County residents looking for services close to home.”
“We can’t wait to open the doors of the Center,” said Mary Brennen, interim dean of the School of Education. “Monmouth faculty will partner with graduate students to address the distinctive needs of children and adults with communication impairments including speech, language and swallowing disorders.”
The Center will offer evaluation and treatment in a wide variety of areas including accent modification, aphasia, apraxia, articulation disorders, auditory processing disorders, augmentative communication, autism, dysarthria, language disorders, neurological impairment, phonological disorders, stroke, stuttering, voice disorders, and more.
“The opening of Monmouth University’s Center for Speech and Language Disorders provides Monmouth University the opportunity to offer rehabilitation services to the community while providing our graduate students with the training and experience they need to excel in their field,” said JoAnne Cascia, director of the program.
The clinic hours will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., with the hours varying by day. Each treatment session will last for 45 minutes.
