Monmouth Community Will Honor Life of Eugene Simko on Oct. 11

To celebrate the life and accomplishments of late Monmouth University professor Eugene (Gene) Simko, the campus community will host a memorial event in the Great Hall of Wilson Hall from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11. The event will include a tree dedication ceremony in Torcivia Commons, followed by light refreshments.

The University community is encouraged to provide quotes (30 words or less) about Simko to be included in a photo montage. Tributes and RSVPs may be sent to events@monmouth.edu.

Simko, a beloved colleague, friend, and professor, passed away on June 12, 2018. A professor of the Leon Hess Business School, Simko was with the University for 40 years. He served as the chair of Faculty Council, and was a member of the Presidential Search Committee, the President’s Council on Diversity and Inclusion, the Roberts’ Teaching Award Committee, and the Faculty Summit Planning Group. Additionally, he was a long-standing member of the graduate faculty, and served as a faculty marshall for the 2018 Graduate Commencement. Simko became a tenured associate professor in 1984, won the Distinguished Teacher Award in 1989, and was the recipient of the Leon Hess Business School’s Service Award, Teaching Excellence Award, and Service Excellence Award.
