Callas Presents in Montréal and Exhibits in Red Bank and New York

Kimberly Callas, MFA, associate professor in the Department of Art and Design, presented “Ocean Bodies: Journeys, Archetypes, and the Ecological Self” at the Universities Art Association of Canada conference at Concordia University in Montréal on Oct. 13. As part of the Ocean Art panel, her presentation explored how figurative and oceanic symbols and come together in her work to address the human relationship and meaning making around the ocean.

Callas’s solo exhibition, “Entanglement in Black and White,” will be on view Nov. 7–30, at the Art Alliance of Monmouth County. Bringing together Callas’s life size sculpture, Rosetta, and new black-and-white reliefs, the exhibition explores connections between body and environment through pattern. Nets, currents, and seaweed drawings are collaged onto 3D-printed sculptures. Callas is also serving as juror for a concurrent exhibition at the Art Alliance. She will deliver a short artist talk at the opening reception on Nov. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Separately, Callas notes that her sculpture, “Celestial Swimmer,” will also be included in the New York Academy of Art’s Take Home a Nude in New York City, which opens on Dec. 16.
