Hawk Safety Alert 2018-02

On Sunday, October 28, at approximately 9:47 p.m., 3 male Monmouth University students were walking West on Beachwood Ave., near the tennis courts, towards McDonalds when a light colored Chevrolet Impala type 4 door vehicle suddenly stopped in the middle of the street. Two (2) males exited the vehicle, a black male wearing a black ski mask and a white male with glasses, wearing a blue jacket, sweatpants, with a large forehead approached the students and demanded that they empty their pockets. No weapons were displayed, no threats were made, no items were taken, and the students were not injured. The actors returned to the vehicle that was driven by a black male and fled East towards Norwood Ave. in Long Branch. The vehicle turned in an unknown direction.

All Students are urged to be cautious while walking off campus. Always walk with a companion, always walk on the sidewalk if possible, and avoid walking on dark streets. If approached, do not resist any requests, try to get a license plate number if a vehicle is involved, and try to get a general description of the actors.

If anyone has any information on this incident, please call the West Long Branch Police Dept. at 732-229-5000 or MUPD at 732-571-4444.
