About the role:
As a Teaching Assistant (TA) for the Pi515 Tech Mentorship Program, you will play a crucial role in shaping the curriculum and supporting high school students as they learn to code using Python. You will be responsible for creating, updating, and providing feedback on the program’s assignments, and assessments while making adjustments and improvements to the existing curriculum. Additionally, you will maintain regular communication with students, organize in-person and virtual classes, and collaborate with our team to ensure the program’s success. This role requires self-motivation, excellent communication skills, and a passion for working with youth.
Overview of the Tech Mentorship Program:
The Pi515 Tech Mentorship Program runs from September to March, offering high school students the opportunity to learn how to code using Python. Led by experienced professionals from our corporate partners who volunteer their time, the program provides hands-on training and real-life learning experiences. Upon completion, students earn 3 college credits from DMACC, empowering them with valuable skills and knowledge to succeed in their educational journey.
Work Schedule:
10-15 hours per week divided between our Des Moines office, program locations, and remote work. Availability required for on-site presence from 3:30-5:00 PM on days that programs occur.
Responsibilities:
- Creating, reviewing, and updating assignments and assessments
- Grading and providing feedback
- Communicate with students on potential concerns, including attendance, assignment/assessment submissions, falling behind, etc. (Will work with program Coordinator)
- Attending in-person classes (twice/week)
- Co-lead virtual/in-person classes
