Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (DSH-A) is hiring pre-licensed and licensed psychologists to work on the residential treatment units in our 1200-bed state hospital. DSH-A serves patients under a variety of commitments. Psychologists provide a variety of assessment and treatment services including admission intake assessments, and group and individual therapy. Psychologists work as part of an interdisciplinary team including Rehabilitation Therapists, Social Workers, Psychiatrists, and Nursing staff.
Individual and group supervision is provided for pre-licensed psychologists, so they can obtain the hours needed for licensure. Training in evidence-based practices is available. DSH-A has an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship as well.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required education is a Doctoral Degree in Psychology with specialization in clinical or child clinical psychology. (Individuals who do not qualify for licensure by the California Board of Psychology or who are in the process of securing this license will be admitted into the examination and may be appointed but must secure a valid license within three years of an appointment or the employment shall be terminated.)
Salary range for:
- Unlicensed psychologists is $9,157 – $10,951 per month.
- Licensed psychologist is $10,809 – $13,272 per month.
- Alternate work schedules available
- Up to 36 hours paid Continuing Education leave per licensing cycle
- Up to 40 hours paid Professional Education and Training Leave annually
- License Renewal Reimbursement

INTERVIEW / RELOCATION INFORMATION Reimbursement for interview and relocation expenses are available up to $10,000 pursuant to operational needs and fund availability. Reimbursement amounts and per diem rates will be based on the candidate’s prospective classification as outlined in the bargaining unit agreement of the CalHR rules.
