The Arlington County Police Department seeks qualified entry-level and lateral-level police officer applicants to join our ranks. 

All applicants are required to be in good physical condition, have a valid driver’s license, be 20 years and 6 months of age or older at the time of application submittal, be a U.S. citizen (no sponsorships), and be willing to sign a non-tobacco waiver (no tobacco products on or off duty throughout tenure of employment). 

Police Officers receive the following benefits (summary):

  • Starting Salary of $72,014 will automatically increase to $90,012 on July 1st, 2026!
  • Signing bonus: $15,000-$25,000
  • 25-year Pension & Supplemental retirement funds (401a & 457)
  • 37.5-hour work week with 4 & 5 days off (15 days a month)
  • 4-year DROP (Deferred Retirement Option Program)

Police Officers have an opportunity to transfer to and/or be part of various units and teams. Assignments are based on time-in-service, completion of training, and experience.

  • Unmanned Aerial Surveillance (Drones)
  • Community Engagement Division
  • Crime Scene & Digital Forensics Unit
  • Criminal Investigations Division
  • Crisis Negotiations Unit
  • LGBTQ+ Liaison Team
  • Plain Clothes Surveillance Team (TAC)
  • Special Operations Section (Motors)
  •  SWAT
  •  K9 Unit (Explosives & Patrol Dogs)
  • Honor Guard
