Part Time Social Worker II – Home Study Assessor  

Department: Social Services

Hiring Range: $27.15 – $32.58 per hour

Description of Work 

  • Complete thorough home study and/or kinship assessments for the placement of children with relatives and other familial connections. Review agency records, backgrounds and other essential documents in order to determine safety of children in relative/kinship placements. 
  • Work cohesively with supervisors, intake, clerical and other departmental staffing to complete assessments within the assigned timeframe. 
  • Providing a strength based approach to children and families with the goal of promoting children’s who experience foster care’s permanence.                  
  • Facilitating the continuation of family connections for children and families when children must be separated from their parents or caretakers because a child has entered the legal custody and placement responsibility of social services. 
  • Working cohesively with birth and resource families, children, community and in-agency partners to support and strengthen families. 
  • Provide case management activities including but not limited to completion of social histories, calling/interviewing of collateral contacts, evaluation of client situation and assessment of safety and wellbeing of child, participation in Child and Family Team Meetings, informing parents and foster parents of services and coordinating services when needed
  • Complete appropriate and timely documentation in permanency planning record including recording all interactions with child and writing of visitation summaries
  • Assist agency with after-hours crisis management (placement moves, etc.)

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • A valid driver’s license with a safe driving record 
  • Ability to engage with parents and children with as strength based approach
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent interpersonal and intervention skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals 
  • Solid understanding of trauma and how it impacts child and families engaged in the child welfare system
  • This is considered light work; lifting up to 40 pounds.                                              

 

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements

 

Social Worker Trainee

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college (preferably in a Social Work-related field)
  • Strong interest and desire related to a Social Work career
  • College transcripts required; signed employment application required

 

Social Worker I

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college (preferably in a Social Work-related field)
  • 1+ years related experience
  • College transcripts required; signed employment application required

 

Social Worker II

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college (preferably in a Social Work-related field)
  • 2+ years related experience
  • College transcripts required; signed employment application required
