Benton County Community Corrections has openings for the position of Parole and Probation Case Monitor (Student Intern). This position is a temporary part-time position expected to work between 10-20 hours per week primarily during the evening hours.

Job Summary
This position works under the general supervision of a Parole and Probation Sergeant and/or Deputy and supports the operation of transitional housing run by the Community Corrections Division in order to protect the community and assist in the rehabilitation process. Case Monitors work directly with adults on probation or post-prison supervision who may be transitioning from prison, experiencing homelessness, addressing substance use concerns, or otherwise needing structured housing and support while under community supervision.
Primary duties include:
- Conduct resident check-ins, verify curfews, monitor visitors, conduct facility walkthroughs and room inspections, review required paperwork, and monitor compliance with housing and supervision expectations.
- Respond to resident questions, concerns, rule violations, and other issues that arise during the shift, including emergency situations, and communicate significant concerns to supervisory staff or the resident’s supervising Parole and Probation Deputy.
- Meet individually with residents on a regular basis to discuss goals, identify barriers, encourage progress, and assist residents in working toward the case plan established with their supervising Parole and Probation Deputy.
- Develop professional working relationships with residents while maintaining appropriate boundaries, enforcing program expectations, and supporting accountability and positive behavioral change.
- Document resident behavior, significant events, compliance concerns, and other relevant information through professional email communication, daily logs, and other required documentation. Written communication must be clear, objective, specific, and professional.
- Provide information and documentation that may be used by Parole and Probation Deputies in supervision decisions, investigations, violation reports, and other case-management activities.
- Assist with routine administrative and program-support duties necessary for the operation of Community Corrections programs.
- May have opportunities to assist Parole and Probation Deputies with reviewing records, organizing supporting information, preparing documentation, and other supervision-related assignments.
- May work during regular business hours to assist Parole and Probation Deputies, provide front desk coverage, assist with investigations and special projects, and collect or organize statistical and program information.
- May participate in observational and learning opportunities, including home visits, field contacts, office visits, and interactions with other professionals and agencies within the criminal justice system, as well as other related tasks and duties as assigned.
Case Monitors primarily work evening shifts, generally from 4:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with shifts available seven days a week. During evening shifts, Case Monitors work in teams of two and serve as the primary Community Corrections staff present at the housing facility.
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
- Must 18 years of age or older.
- Must be currently enrolled in a university or community college working toward a degree in Corrections, Behavioral or Social Science, or a related field.
- Have 1 year or more of school remaining.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Hiring is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background and reference check.
Ideal Candidate:
- The ideal candidate is a college student interested in gaining practical experience in community corrections and the criminal justice system. Previous criminal justice experience is not required.
- Some knowledge of behavior and adjustment problems in Justice Involved Individuals and the ability to assist in dealing with them.
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing word processing software, and some knowledge of standard office practices and procedures in a professional setting.
- Ability to interact with Justice Involved Individuals; ability to maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, clients, courts, other agencies, and the general public.
- Represent the Sheriff’s Office in a professional manner.
