The Atlanta Police Foundation is launching an exciting new venture! The Cadet Academy provides participants with the unique opportunity to both serve the local community while also gaining valuable insights and skills to prepare them for a career in law enforcement. 

 

Location: Atlanta, GA; various locations 

Term: September 1, 2026 – July 31, 2027

Compensation: $15/hour, 20-25 hours per week. Program graduates will also be eligible for either an education stipend or signing bonus with the Atlanta Police Department. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Cadets will spend 80% of their time serving the local senior and youth populations by helping Atlanta Police Department staff administer recreation, arts, and self-defense programming. They may also get the opportunity to work with City of Atlanta Parks and Recreation Department staff or in @Promise Youth Centers. 
  • Cadets will spend the remaining 20% of their time completing an experiential learning curriculum in law enforcement. Individuals will spend time in and out of a classroom setting, gaining insights exciting career opportunities in public safety. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Must be 18-20.5 years of age at the start of the program
  • Must be able to participate in moderate to strenuous physical activity, such as coaching and refereeing athletic activities like pickleball and water aerobics
  • Must have strong communications skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with seniors and youth in a fun, social environment
  • Preferred that applicants have an interest in exploring careers in law enforcement or public safety

 

*Please note that pending a grant award, this program may be offered in conjunction with AmeriCorps.
