School of Social Work Scholarships

Betty G. Young Professional Development Endowment for Social Work Students

This fund was established to provide financial support toward graduate student participant in conference and workshops intended to augment information gleaned in the classroom. Funds from this endowment have been used to send students to national and local conferences.

The Medhi Aslanbeigui Endowed Scholarship in Social Work

This scholarship supports graduate students pursuing a master’s degree in social work with a demonstrated interest in working with underserved women and children. Mr. Aslanbeigui, a native of Iran, believed that philanthropy is a civic obligation. He was generous to the poor, especially women and children and was an advocate of gender equality in education and employment.

The Silver Family Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship supports graduate students with a previous private/public sector career experience who are committed to developing the necessary skills to address the myriad challenges facing the social sector. The scholarship is intended to encourage social work students to become active, global citizens in the social sector while developing an understanding of human diversity and society.

The Saifuddin T. Mama Graduate Social Work Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dr. Saifuddin T. Mama to honor his wife, Dr. Robin Sakina Mama, the founding Dean of the School of Social Work in recognition of her continued dedication to the field of social work. It supports students enrolled in the Master of Social Work program who have financial need.

Endowed Scholarship for International Field Abroad:

  • Sally Kanehe International Social Work Scholarship – supports international and community development students who complete field abroad with indigenous peoples.
  • Santander International Social Work Scholarship – supports international and community development students who complete field abroad in Spanish speaking countries.
  • Taiyeb and Amta Mama International Social Work Scholarship – supports international and community development students who complete field abroad in Africa, the Indian Subcontinent or Vietnam.

Paul D. Coverdell Peace Corps Fellowships

Two fellowships are offered in the MSW program for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers. Please visit our Peace Corps Fellows Program website for further details.

Graduate Assistantships

The Schools of Social Work offers a number of 6-credit graduate assistantships, either as Teaching Graduate Assistantships, Research Graduate Assistantships, or General Graduate Assistantships.
