50-Hour Preservice Teacher Training Course

Course Description

The 50-hour Preservice Teacher Training Course serves as the entry point for candidates who hold a bachelor’s or advanced degree from a regionally accredited college or university and are interested in pursuing a career in education. Upon successful completion of the program, candidates will earn their Certificate of Eligibility (CE) and be eligible to seek employment as a teacher in the State of New Jersey.

The fifty-hour preservice course is offered entirely online and is designed to provide aspiring educators with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to begin their teaching careers. The program features a blend of live Zoom sessions, optional office hours, asynchronous web-based modules, digital classroom observations and analysis, and a culminating performance assessment focused on instructional planning and student engagement.

Throughout the course, candidates will explore both the practical and foundational aspects of effective teaching. Topics include:

• Educational Foundations: Terminology, Roles, and School Structures
• Resume, Cover Letter, and Interview Preparation
• Classroom Management and Establishing Positive Learning Environments
• Planning for Instruction and Assessment
• Instructional Strategies and Student Engagement
• Supporting Diverse Learners, Including Students with Disabilities and Multilingual Learners
• Professional Responsibilities and Ethical Practice
• Building Relationships with Students, Families, and Colleagues

By the conclusion of the course, candidates will have developed a strong foundation in effective teaching practices and will be well prepared to enter the classroom as reflective, student-centered educators.

Course Requirements: Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree and meet the state GPA requirement as described below:

GPA Requirement:

• Applicants who graduated prior to September 1, 2016: 2.75 or higher
• Applicants who graduated after September 1, 2016: 3.0 or higher
