Hawk Safety Alert 2013-02

Purse Snatch Dec 3, 2013On December 3, 2013 at approximately 1:00 PM, a female student was walking on the Great Lawn side of Wilson Hall when a black male said hello to her, and reached out and grabbed her small wristlet type purse (purple with floral print). The suspect then fled east on the Great Lawn to the Norwood Avenue (north) exit, and was last seen running across Norwood Avenue toward Kirby Ave.

The suspect is described as a dark skinned, medium build, black male, approximately 6’ tall. He was wearing maroon or dark brown Adidas style athletic pants. He was also wearing a matching black athletic zippered sweatshirt with the hood up, covering a ski cap. The black sweatshirt had 3 horizontal stripes on the upper arm. He was wearing white sneakers.

A second suspect is described as a light skinned male possibly wearing a royal blue ski mask or face covering. No other description was given. The direction of flight of this individual is unknown.

The Monmouth University Police are actively investigating this incident. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the University Police at 732-571-4444. Ask for D/Cpl. Layton, but if he is unavailable please leave the information with the Dispatcher and D/Cpl. Layton will get back to you.

Although this is a first time incident, students, faculty and employees are advised to use caution in their travels about campus. The campus community is reminded that if anyone sees or hears anything suspicious, they should contact the University Police. Lastly, the campus community is reminded that the University Police provide an escort service about campus if anyone has any safety concerns.
