Hawk Safety Alert 2011-02

security_480

On April 22, 2011 between the hours of midnight and 10:30 AM, two nuisance type fires were lit in separate Residential Life Facilities. In the first incident, which took place in the early morning hours, an individual set fire to a Styrofoam food tray in the 2nd floor east bathroom of Elmwood Hall. In the second incident, which took place in the late morning hours, someone lit a newspaper on fire on a coffee table in Cedar Hall I suite.

Although these fires appear to have been set as a prank, the setting of fires can be dangerous. Even a small fire can quickly spread beyond control with costly and deadly ramifications.

Students should also be advised that if caught setting these “minor” fires, they will be arrested and charged.

At this time the University Police are requesting information on whomever may have set these fires. A reward of $1,000 has been offered to anyone who gives information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who may have set either of these fires. If you have any information, please contact the University Police at 732-571-4444.
