Monmouth University Holmes Scholars

The Holmes Scholars Program at Monmouth University, sponsored by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), supports doctoral students whose research focuses on student success, educational equity, and inclusive excellence. Scholars receive mentorship, peer support, and professional development aligned with the School of Education’s vision, mission, and values. At Monmouth, the Holmes Scholars Program advances our commitment to preparing highly competent, reflective educational leaders dedicated to social justice and to serving diverse communities.

Eligibility

Students eligible for the AACTE Holmes Scholars at Temple University program:

  • are full-time or part-time students enrolled in the doctoral program (Ed.D.) in the School of Education
  • have at least two academic years remaining in an academic program.
  • have research interests related to educational equity and belonging.

Participant Expectations

If selected as a member of the Holmes Scholar Program, travel support is provided for up to two years, and you are expected to commit to the following:

  • Serve as a graduate assistant within the School of Education’s Department of Educational Counseling and Leadership.
  • Participation in the annual AACTE Meeting, including the Holmes Scholars pre-conference events, with travel funded by the School of Education for two years.
  • Submission of proposals to present research at the AACTE Annual Meeting for each year in the program.
  • Participate in a minimum of one AACTE Holmes Scholars Summer Policy Institute and AACTE Day on the Hill during Washington Week, with travel funded by the School of Education.
  • Participation in at least one other education conference, such as the American Educational Research Association, the Association of Teacher Educators, or another organization within the scholar’s discipline.
  • Proposal and implementation of a project that relates to or furthers the goals of AACTE and authentically engages them in advocacy, policy, service, or research work that furthers high-quality and equitable educator preparation.
  • Participation in scheduled meetings with Monmouth’s Holmes Scholars.
