Favorite Math/Stats Memory

There’s too many to pick from: becoming a tutor in the MLC, taking a class with Dr. Bastian for the first time, late night study sessions with friends where we would be solving problems that would take up the entire white board, being a PAL for Differential Equations, and winning my academic achievement award.

Why Did You Become a Math/Stats Major?

I have always loved math because it just clicked for me. Every problem is like a little puzzle and I love finding different ways to solve them. I am also proud to be a female student in the math department and was excited to see that Monmouth had many other fellow women pursuing degrees in math.

What Are Your Plans for Using Math/Stats After Graduation?

I plan to be a high school math teacher in New Jersey. I would love to eventually teach calculus and other higher level classes. I also plan to get my Masters in math within the next few years.

Advice for Incoming Students?

Get involved in the math department: become a tutor, join the math club, go to department events, take math electives. All of these things will help broaden your connections and experiences as a math major. Also, take advantage of professor office hours. Every math professor at Monmouth is incredibly helpful and wants to see you succeed, so don’t be afraid to meet with them outside of class to discuss any questions you have!
