Technical Sales Engineer (Trainee)

Company: Process & Power Inc.

Location: Memphis, TN (Training phases) | Final placement location flexible

Position Type: Full-Time, 2–3 Year Structured Development Track

Role Overview

Process & Power Inc.—a leading distributor of engineered industrial equipment for over 62 years—is seeking a Technical Sales Engineer (Trainee). This structured 2–3 year program builds foundational technical and sales expertise in Memphis before placing graduates into long-term career roles based on company needs and individual strengths.

The 3-Phase Career Path

  • Phase 1: Inside Sales (Months 0–12 | Memphis)
Learn core pump/system fundamentals. Process 40–60 transactional orders weekly, qualify inbound leads (BANT), and deliver fast, accurate quotes (24-hour turnaround).
  • Phase 2: Customer Service Rep (Months 12–36 | Memphis)
Own retention and growth for 50–100 assigned accounts. Execute daily outreach campaigns (20–30 touches/day) and manage emergency client responses.
  • Phase 3: Final Placement (Months 36+)
Transition into one of two career tracks (relocation may be required):

    • Track A: Outside Sales Engineer: Focus on territory growth, conducting 20+ face-to-face field meetings and 2–3 site surveys per week.
    • Track B: Application Engineer / Project Leader: Focus on technical solution design, pump sizing, technical calculations, and post-sale project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sales & Service Execution: Meet weekly targets for order processing, lead generation, and proactive customer touches across training phases.
  • CRM Discipline: Maintain pristine CRM hygiene, updating fields and interaction notes within 2 hours of customer contact.
  • Technical Learning: Participate in hands-on manufacturer training, engineering webinars, and field ride-alongs with senior sales engineers and service technicians.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Coordinate smooth hand-offs between Business Development, Application Engineering, and Operations teams.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a technical discipline preferred; other degrees considered with proven technical aptitude.
  • Skills: Strong solution-selling mindset, mechanical/technical aptitude, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Drive: High goal orientation with a desire to build a career as a customer-facing technical consultant.
  • Mobility: Must reside in or relocate to Memphis for the first 24-36 months. Flexibility for regional relocation (e.g., Nashville, SW Arkansas) upon final placement is required.

What We Offer

  • A clear, defined pathway into high-earning outside sales or technical engineering roles.
  • Direct exposure to diverse heavy industries (chemical, power generation, food & beverage).
  • A culture deeply committed to safety, professional development, and technical excellence.
