Job Description

Expressive Path is a 75% mobile nonprofit organization based in Norristown, PA. We provide creative arts, music, and enrichment programming that empowers young people through artistic expression, personal growth, and community engagement.

We are currently seeking passionate, creative, and dependable Teaching Artists to facilitate arts-based programming within the Chester School District during the school day and throughout the summer. Teaching Artists will work directly with students in classroom settings, providing engaging lessons that encourage creativity, skill development, and self-expression.

Position Details

  • Compensation: Teaching Artists may choose to serve as volunteers or receive a $30 stipend per class taught.
  • Schedule: Morning and afternoon classes during the regular school day.
  • Location: Chester School District.
  • Status: Part-time/Contract Teaching Artist or Volunteer Teaching Artist.
  • Flexible opportunities available based on program and school needs.

Teaching Artists who choose to volunteer may be eligible to receive documentation of volunteer service hours, letters of recommendation, and professional development opportunities through Expressive Path.

Teaching Artist Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with program goals
  • Facilitate arts-based instruction in classroom and group settings
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
  • Collect and maintain student attendance, participation data, and program information
  • Complete required documentation, progress notes, and paperwork following each class
  • Communicate professionally with school staff and Expressive Path leadership
  • Adapt lessons to meet diverse student needs and learning styles
  • Represent Expressive Path professionally within school and community settings

Required Qualifications

  • Experience teaching, mentoring, coaching, or working with youth
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills
  • Ability to create and deliver original lesson plans
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to assigned school locations
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to complete documentation and reporting requirements in a timely manner

Clearance Requirements

All Teaching Artists must obtain and maintain the following Pennsylvania clearances prior to working with students:

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check (Act 34)
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)
  • FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114), if applicable
  • Pennsylvania Mandated Reporter Training Certificate
