The Social Work Intern will assist the Director of Constituent Services with handling constituent cases, organizing and attending community events, learning about the legislative process, and other substantive assignments and administrative tasks.

The position requires a highly organized individual with a keen attention to detail and strong work ethic, and proven ability to excel in a fast-paced environment. Our team values strong written and oral communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to take initiative. Residing in the 36th legislative district and fluency in Spanish is a plus. This is an in person and unpaid internship. The Social Work Intern is expected to report to the District Office in Passaic for 10 hours per week.

Reports To:  Director of Constituent Services 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Answer phones professionally and take detailed messages.
  • Work with constituent intake forms and periodically update social service resource list.
  • Monitor legislative activity that may have a direct impact on the 36th legislative district.
  • Draft responses to constituent inquiries via e-mail, written correspondence and perform updates to existing databases.
  • Manage district and state-wide events in conjunction with the Communications Director.
  • Perform special projects assigned by legislative staff.
  • Safeguard confidentiality of office files and information received.
  • Attend voting sessions in Trenton on occasion.
  • Staff legislative tabling events and site visits.
  • Assist with district mass mailers (i.e., constituent response letters…)
