Public Programs Intern (Part-Time)
Job Summary:
The Public Programs Intern supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of educational and public engagement programs that connect museum visitors with the museum’s mission, collections, exhibitions, and community initiatives. This internship provides hands-on experience in museum education, event planning, visitor engagement, and program administration. Interns gain exposure to museum operations while developing professional skills in public programming and community outreach.
Basic Functions and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Assist with the planning, preparation, and facilitation of public programs, workshops, lectures, camps, and special events.
- Support program setup, breakdown, and logistical coordination.
- Welcome and engage visitors during programs and events.
- Assist with hands-on educational activities and interactive learning experiences.
- Conduct program attendance tracking, visitor surveys, and program evaluations.
- Help maintain program supplies, materials, and educational resources.
- Assist with community outreach initiatives and promotional activities.
- Support staff with administrative tasks, scheduling, and data entry.
- Research topics, presenters, and community partners to support future programming.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Provide exceptional customer service while representing the museum professionally.

Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, in Museum Studies, Education, History, Science, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Interest in museums, informal learning, education, or community engagement.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse audiences, including children, families, and adults.
- Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic technology tools preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to assist with event setup and program materials.
Work Environment:
This position works in a fast-paced museum environment with frequent interaction with guests, including children, school groups, and community partners. Weekend, holiday, and evening availability are required based on programming and event schedules.
