Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS)Division of Public Health (DPH) is recruiting for a Limited Term Employment (LTE) Public Health Preparedness Communicator in the Office of Preparedness and Emergency Health Care (OPEHC). This position will work 8 hours per day, not to exceed 1039 hours in a 12-month period. Weekly schedule will be dependent on program need and in consultation with the selected application. 

DPH works with our local and Tribal public health partners, and community groups statewide, on a wide variety of programs and services that protect the health of Wisconsin residents.

This position offers the option to work remotely up to 5 days per week and will be headquartered at one of the DPH central or regional offices. You must have access to both a private workspace and high-speed internet if working remotely. A greater in-office presence may be required periodically for meetings, events, training, onboarding, or other operational needs.

Position Summary

As the Public Health Preparedness Communicator LTE, you will be responsible for producing promotional and educational material for public health partners and the public. This position will develop and disseminate clearly written, well-designed content for partners in a variety of formats, such as web content, social media posts, newsletters, training materials, reports, etc. You will work closely with program experts, and ensure all content is in alignment with the department’s communication standards. 

Salary Information

The starting pay is between $21.00 and $28.00 per hour. This position is classified as a Public Health Educator and is in pay schedule and range 11/04.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

For positions that allow remote working flexibility, working outside of Wisconsin or in bordering cities will not be allowed except in extremely limited circumstances due to the need to report to an office location in Wisconsin on short notice.

Employees must have access to both a private workspace and secure high-speed internet for remote work option. Mileage reimbursement to the employee’s headquarter location is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have both of the following:

  • Experience using computers and software applications for data visualization and digital content development.
  • Experience developing marketing materials, visual communication products, or public presentations that align with organizational goals and communication standards. 

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience developing multi-media campaigns.
  • Experience developing content based on input from subject matter experts.
  • Experience presenting complex, technical or sensitive information.
