SUNY Broome Community College is seeking applicants for Part-Time Professional Tutors in the Learning Assistance Department. The Professional Tutor assists and guides students in their coursework, providing academic support and integrating study & learning strategies to promote independent learning. 

Tutors may be needed in various subject areas, with current openings in:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Microbiology and Pathogenic Microbiology
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Business Information Technology
  • Accounting and Business Statistics

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Completes asynchronous onboarding training and any assigned ongoing training. 
  • Supports student comprehension by developing learning activities, clarifying course concepts, and guiding students through course materials in one-on-one or small group formats.
  • Provides students with tools and strategies to evaluate study habits and become active learners in one-on-one or small group formats.
  • Refers students to other student support resources as needed.
  • Maintains bi-weekly timesheets and tracks tutoring sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, or a combination of an Associate’s degree and a License/Certification in a related area.
  • Participation in initial training and ongoing tutor development activities as required.
  • One year of experience working with students in an academic setting, preferable.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.

Additional Information:

The hourly rate for this position is $30.78. This rate will increase to $31.96 an hour as of September 1, 2026.

Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
