The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) will carry out an individualized program of physical therapy including treatment, education, and communication to maximize a patient’s progress toward achieving functional goals. The PTA will also maintain a positive working relationship with other health professionals and ancillary staff.
Purpose:
The purpose of the PTA is to provide quality physical therapy designed to maximize functional outcomes by improving strength, mobility, range of motion, pain reduction and the overall quality of life for the patient.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s) Required:
Knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the population age groups (Birth to 21 years of age) that will be receiving services.
Ability to remain calm in emergency or crisis situations.
Effectively communicate with patients, professionals, and caregivers.
Demonstrate ability to be a team player.
Exhibit ability to multi-task, or able to acknowledge, balance and respond to situations, interruptions, and distractions.
Maintain professional appearance, positive morale, and appropriate body language.
Show good initiative, flexibility, and take responsibility for actions.
Computer Skills: Possess ability to work on a variety of platforms including internet and/or cloud-based applications, electronic medical records systems, and video conferencing programs
Required Education and Experience:
Graduate of an American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
Obtain license from the State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
Maintain current license to practice physical therapy in the state of Connecticut.
Experience working with children is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
Duties require frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
Requires lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Monitor patient plans of care for all patient types and discuss progression with supervising PT as appropriate.
Provide physical therapy interventions and patient education in a professional and competent manner according for all patients.
Review patient goals and plans of care with supervising PT to ensure optimal patient outcomes, and revise plans of care at the discretion of supervising PT.
Provide clinical instruction to prospective PTA students after minimum of 1 year clinical experience.
Communicate effectively with other professionals and support staff to achieve positive patient outcomes.
Understand and abide by Cheshire Fitness Zone’s practices, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards; including but not limited to Covid precautions and protocols.
Follow departmental policies and procedures including but not limited to:
Produce accurate daily documentation within 48 hours of treatment session
Complete clinic billing within 48 hours of treatment session
Submit weekly school numbers to Clinical Supervisor by end of each week
Submit monthly school billing within timeframe designated by Clinical Director
Complete plan of care updates for all patients per individual plan of care recommendations
Document plan of care updates, daily treatment sessions, and discharge summaries under the supervision of PT in a competent manner.
Work with Medical Records Specialist to ensure that prescriptions and signatures have been obtained as required by company policy and State Practice Act.
Adhere to APTA code of ethics, State of Connecticut Practice Act for Physical Therapy
Improve clinical skills and enhance professional growth through reading, attending continuing education seminars, staff in-services, and department meetings.
