Job Title: Standardized Patient (SP) – Optometry Exams

Job Description:
Join the NBEO team as a Standardized Patient (SP) and play a vital role in ensuring the next generation of optometrists are ready to serve the public. In this paid role, you will be trained to portray patients in optometry licensure exams, allowing candidates to demonstrate and be evaluated on their clinical skills.

 

What You’ll Do:

Act as a patient during parts of an eye exam (training provided).

Assist with basic optometric procedures such as eye pressure checks and retinal evaluations.

Occasionally serve as a proctor during clinical skills exams.

Ensure exam procedures remain fair, standardized, and confidential.

Help maintain and clean equipment according to protocols.

 

Details:

Hours: 12–20 hours per week, based on exam schedules.

Pay: $17.00 per hour. Referral bonuses are available.

Training: Paid training provided — no prior medical experience required.

Impact: Contribute to protecting the public and ensuring the competency of future optometrists.

Important Schedule Information: This is a permanent seasonal position. Work is available during the testing season, which runs from August through May. The position is not scheduled to operate during June and July, offering a consistent annual break between testing cycles. 

 

Qualifications:

Professional, reliable, and detail oriented.

Comfortable with hands-on training and standardized procedures.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Commitment to confidentiality

Available at least 2 days per week, Monday through Friday, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
