About the Fiver Children’s Foundation

Fiver is not a typical after school program or summer camp. We take a slow and steady approach to building relationships and developing social, emotional and life skills that lead to positive decision-making and outcomes for youth. We are committed to ensuring that all Fiver spaces, communications and interactions are: Inclusive, Warm, Youth-Centered, Honest, and Intentional. Through our one-of-a-kind ten-year commitment, Fiver provides experiences that challenge and builds relationships that nurture so that youth from marginalized communities in New York can create their own positive futures.

Job Description

Counselors are responsible for providing supervision, guidance, support and leadership to a group of campers in their cabin. As the camper’s primary caregiver during their two-week stay, counselors must be attentive to the camper’s physical, emotional and social needs. Through our character development program, Fiver teaches campers to be a Friend, an Individual, a Valuable Team Player, an Environmentalist and a Risk Taker. We are looking for outstanding role models to inspire and mentor our children!

Counselors should possess skills in a specific program area (e.g. art, dance, sports, waterfront activities, computers, etc) and be comfortable teaching/assisting in these subject matters during daily activity slots. Counselors work together as a dynamic team; counselors should be fun-loving, kid-friendly, open-minded, patient, flexible, willing to learn, mature and compassionate!

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year post high school by June 2026
  • One year post high school experience working with children preferred

During their experience at Camp Fiver, Counselors will gain many transferable skills such as leadership, effective communication, time management, strategic thinking, behavior management and youth development best practices.

Fiver offers a $100 referral bonus in the first paycheck for every counselor/staff member that you refer, is hired, & arrives at camp for staff training.

Located in beautiful Upstate New York, Camp Fiver is a four-hour trip from New York City and is 45 minutes southeast of Syracuse. Camp Fiver’s 129-acre property includes a lake, a river, woodlands, a learning center, dining hall, horse barn and more. Counselors live at Camp Fiver for all 4, 12-day sessions (off days will be discussed thoroughly during staff training) including one and a half weeks of training prior to camp.
