About the Role
As a Medical Technologist (Medical Laboratory Scientist) in the U.S. Navy Medical Service Corps, you won’t just work in a lab—you will lead one. You will manage high-tech clinical laboratories aboard aircraft carriers, at hospital ships, or at cutting-edge naval medical centers worldwide. From diagnosing tropical diseases in remote regions to managing blood banks during critical humanitarian missions, your work directly protects the health of Sailors, Marines, and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Testing: Perform and oversee complex tests in hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, and blood banking using advanced automated instrumentation.
- Leadership & Management: Supervise teams of Navy Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs), managing lab workflows, budgeting, and supply chains.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure strict compliance with laboratory accreditation standards (CAP, AABB, Joint Commission).
- Mobile Medicine: Establish and maintain field laboratories during deployment, disaster relief, or humanitarian operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a closely related biological science.
- Certification: Current national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) through the ASCP or AMT.
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Age & Medical: Ability to pass a military physical examination and meet Navy commissioning age requirements (typically under 42).
