About the Internship

The New Jersey Infrastructure Bank (I-Bank) is seeking a curious, creative student to join its Marketing and Social Media Internship Program. You will learn how a New Jersey public-sector organization communicates complex financing programs and community impact in clear, engaging ways.

This is a structured, hands-on experience-not a shadowing assignment. Over 10 weeks, you will research audiences, develop content, publish approved posts, review performance data, and present a completed campaign to senior management.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

Your work will vary by program phase and will typically include:

  • Meet with I-Bank staff to learn about financing programs, priorities, audiences, brand standards, and public-sector requirements.
  • Research target audiences and content opportunities, then help maintain a practical content plan.
  • Draft and design platform-specific posts and graphics using tools such as Canva and Social Assurance.
  • Submit content for review, incorporate feedback, and schedule or publish approved posts.
  • Monitor campaign activity, maintain an engagement log, and prepare brief weekly performance summaries.
  • Review reach, engagement, and follower data and turn findings into recommendations for future outreach.

Your Capstone Campaign

You will develop and execute a mini social media campaign aligned with I-Bank priorities. You will set goals, define audiences, create and adapt content across at least two platforms, publish approved posts, evaluate results, and present your findings and recommendations to senior management.

What you’ll produce:

  • Fully designed posts ready for review and publication
  • Published posts, weekly performance summaries, and an engagement log
  • A campaign analysis identifying trends, high- and low-performing content, and recommendations
  • A final PowerPoint presentation covering strategy, content, results, lessons learned, and next steps

What you’ll learn:

  • How to translate technical public-finance information into clear, audience-centered content
  • How messaging, tone, and format change by audience and platform
  • How to work within brand, approval, and compliance requirements
  • How to interpret social media metrics and connect performance to strategy
  • How to present recommendations to organizational leaders

Qualifications and Skills

  • A current college student with an interest in communications, marketing, social media, public relations, graphic design, public administration, or a related field
  • Strong writing, editing, organization, and presentation skills
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, attention to detail, and openness to feedback
  • Interest in learning about government, infrastructure, public finance, and community impact
  • Comfort using, or willingness to learn, social media publishing, design, and analytics tools
  • Ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines in a structured approval environment
  • Experience with Canva, social media content creation, basic video editing, analytics, or portfolio work.

How to Apply

Apply through Handshake and include:

  • A resume
  • 2-3 samples showcasing your writing, social media, marketing, or design skills as one PDF or an accessible portfolio link.
