POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous coaching experience
- Valid Driver License
- AHSAA Coaches Education Program certification or obtain certification before any practice attended
- Valid CPR certification
- A sign language proficiency level of INTERMEDIATE PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system
- Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment
PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Alabama Teaching Certificate
- Head Coaching experience
- CDL with Alabama School Bus endorsement
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coaching & Program Development
- Technical Instruction: Demonstrate expert knowledge of football offenses and defenses; effectively teach these skills to student-athletes.
- Practice Management: Assist with the organization and supervision of all practice sessions (including spring, summer, weekends, and evenings). Practice schedules are maintained under the direction of the Athletic Director.
- Scouting & Strategy: Scout opponents to prepare for games and ensure all games are videotaped for review and the maintenance of a video library.
- Program Growth: Collaborate with the Athletic Director to continuously improve and develop the athletic program.
- Honors & Recognition: Collect and report statistics for Deaf All-American consideration and other athletic honors.
Communication & Relationship Management
- Stakeholder Rapport: Develop and maintain professional relationships with staff, parents, students, alumni, and public-school personnel.
- Inclusive Communication: Demonstrate proficiency in communicating with both Deaf and hearing individuals. Must show a dedicated commitment to the AIDB Communication Policy in both theory and practice.
- Media Relations: Promptly report game results to newspapers and appropriate media outlets.
Student Supervision & Safety
- Continuous Supervision: Maintain strict supervision of all Alabama School for the Deaf (ASD) students during away trips and games, ensuring an AIDB staff member is present at all times.
- Travel Logistics: Supervise pre- and post-game meals, including managing student behavior in restaurants and handling all related receipts and paperwork.
- Health & First Aid: Evaluate and treat minor athletic injuries using basic first aid; refer serious injuries to the school infirmary and prioritize player safety in all training philosophies.
Operations & Administration
- Compliance & Training: Complete required courses in Concussion, Heat Acclimatization, STAR Sportsmanship, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
- Licensing: Obtain a CDL with School Bus endorsement within six months of hire and maintain yearly Alabama School Bus Driver’s License certification (including physicals).
- Logistics: Coordinate bus pick-up, cleaning, and return. Submit official requests (meals, equipment, transport) to the Athletic Director in a timely manner.
- Equipment Oversight: Manage the laundering of practice and game uniforms; maintain an organized inventory of all equipment and supplies.
- Record Keeping: Maintain updated files for student-athletes, including statistics, participation years, and awards.
School-Wide Support
- Off-Season Engagement: Support the broader athletic department during the off-season (e.g., concessions, ticketing, camps). Maintain an off-season program including but not limited to, team camp, team training, coach clinic as determined by the athletic director.
- Extracurricular Involvement: Assist with school-wide activities including clubs, organizations, and social events.
- Professionalism: Attend professional clinics, area tournament meetings, and coaching associations as required.

SALARY:
0-3 years’ experience: $6000.00
4-7 years’ experience: $9000.00
8+ years’ experience: $12,000.00
