ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

PROGRAM SUMMARY
Funded through the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides youth ages 14 to 24 years old with project-based learning opportunities and paid, summer work experience for up to six weeks in July and August. Participants work in entry-level positions across a variety of sectors and industries, and are provided with workshops on job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy, continuing education and other life.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with recruitment and enrollment of selected participants
- Follow up with existing worksites to ensure their continued participation
- Develop new partnerships with a variety of sectors and industries
- Conduct and facilitate work readiness training, interactive project-based learning workshops and program orientation
- Design and facilitate informative workshops related to positive youth development, such as life skills, leadership skills, work readiness, financial literacy and higher education and healthy living
- Coordinate the scheduling of guest speakers, community service opportunities
- Maintain participants’ attendance and progress
- Attend meetings and professional development training as required by CPC and funders
- Fulfill other related duties as outlined by the Program Director
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- College student majoring in education or social science preferred, but not required
- Prior experience working with high school youth in a classroom setting; knowledge of teen and immigrant issues helpful
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent written, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of MS office applications and virtual platforms such as Zoom, Teams, and Webex.
- Bilingual; fluency in English and any of the following languages Arabic/Chinese/Spanish.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW
- $22.00 – $27.00 per hour; 18 – 25 hours per week with occasional weekends through the end of August 2025
- CPC offers eligible temporary staff members mandatory benefits, including paid New York State sick time
